Amperometric Glucose Biosensors: Past, Present and Future

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Foundations of biosensor and its technological advancements thereof, was laid down by father of the biosensor, Professor Leland C Clark Jnr., in 1956 with advent of Clark oxygen electrode. The first biosensor dates back to 1962, when Clark and Lyons of the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital proposed the first enzyme based electrode to measure blood glucose[26]. The underlying principle being monitoring the oxygen consumption, during the oxidation of glucose, by glucose oxidase (GOx) entrapped between semipermeable membranes over an oxygen electrode. Since the pioneering work of Clark and Lyons, although a variety of techniques and methodologies focusing on improvements of signal transduction and immobilizations of the biomolecule for glucose biosensor are reported, still it has changed little in principle over several years.

Amperometric test strips for point of care biosensors: an overview

Amperometric biosensor strips are a fast and inexpensive way to measure blood metabolites. Although many different compounds can be measured amperometrically by exploiting the same measuring algorithms, the blood glucose monitoring still accounts for the 85% of the biosensors market. The competition between the main industry players promoted the development of sophisticated glucose sensors capa...

Development of Anodic Titania Nanotubes for Application in High Sensitivity Amperometric Glucose and Uric Acid Biosensors

The purpose of this study was to develop novel nanoscale biosensors using titania nanotubes (TNTs) made by anodization. Titania nanotubes were produced on pure titanium sheets by anodization at room temperature. In this research, the electrolyte composition ethylene glycol 250 mL/NH4F 1.5 g/DI water 20 mL was found to produce the best titania nanotubes array films for application in amperometri...

Electrochemical biosensor of nanocube-augmented carbon nanotube networks.

Networks of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) decorated with Au-coated Pd (Au/Pd) nanocubes are employed as electrochemical biosensors that exhibit excellent sensitivity (2.6 mA mM(-1) cm(-2)) and a low estimated detection limit (2.3 nM) at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3 (S/N = 3) in the amperometric sensing of hydrogen peroxide. Biofunctionalization of the Au/Pd nanocube-SWCNT biosensor is...
